I am the granddaughter of Herman Oedekoven who was the son of Joseph and Agnes Oedekoven. They came from Germany on a ship that arrived in New York. They left a thriving rock quary to escape the coming war.
My Mother was one of 4 daughters born to Herman and Dorothy Oedekoven. Many Oedekoven families live in the Black Hills of South Dakota and the area North of Gillette, WY called Recluse.

I was so surprised and very happy to find this site. I also met Carl Oedekoven and his son and daughter when he came from Germany to visit. He had been an officer in the German army during the war.
I too, would love to visit the town of Oedekoven in Germany one day.

I was asked to write to you about Joseph Oedekoven,by Dusty's Grandparents as they are so busy. Our Joseph was born 27 , 1857. You stated he was not the right one.
He was the son of Friedrich Oedekoven, b. Oct. 26, 1804.
His Fathjer was Heinrich, and Grandson of Anton
Oedekoven. Aanton was b. April 5th, 1730. at Mehlem.
Does that help you any? I am glad to help if I can. I have been interested in Family since 1967, but got stuck on some of my names , like Smith

Thanks for this site address. t was very interesting. Your crest is different from ours. I could send you a copy if my scanner was working. I hope to get it working soon.
Is the Oedekoven name that common in GErmany.? Someone might have told me it was quite common. We may not be related at all. There are not too many here in USA, outside of our big family. We had 137 or so at one Reunion two
years ago.

I am the great-granddaughter of Ella (Lindstrom) and Albert Oedekoven. I just found your site tonight and have found it fascinating. I enjoyed the pictures of the village. I met a relative, Carl Oedekoven, when I was a teenager and he was visiting Sturgis. He told us about the village of Oedekoven, but I have only been to the southern part of Germany and did not have the opportunity to travel to the Bonn area. I do not know where Albert fits into your family tree. He died before I was born, so I did not know him and I do not have a history of his branch of the family. Because my grandmother (Ella and Albert\'s daughter) still lives in Sturgis, I know or knew all but one of their children. Thank you for the interesting information. Once I finish with school, I would like to further investigate this piece of my family tree.
